I was hiking along the High Peaks trail between Scout Peak and the Tunnel Trail junction a couple hundred yards before the first steep and narrow part of the trail with a metal handrail when I saw two pairs of large dark birds perched on the rocks in the distance. As soon as I focused my 400 mm lens on them it was clear they were Condors and I had to struggle to remain calm. Even though they were too distant to be able to get high quality photos, learning from past missed opportunities, I immediately started taking photos to make sure I had some to bring home with me.
