California Condors

Pinnacles National Monument is a part of the California Condor Recovery Program, and all the condors carry tracking numbers and transceivers. In this photo you can see number 45 (left) and 18 (center). The other two carry numbers 17 and 30. The National Park Service Pinnacles' condor section has this page with profiles of the Pinnacles condors. Each condor is listed with a three digit number, but their photos show tags with two digit numbers just like mine. I'm guessing that tags show the last two digits of the three digit number. If that is correct, the condors I saw are numbers 317, 330, 345, and 418. Update 5/2/2010: More recent information has been brought to myattention that leads me to believe my identification was partly incorrect. I now believe that the condor I thought was number 418 is actually number 318 which was released in Big Sur in 2004.
